Plans for Proposed New Memorial Hall

This page gives access to the Plans and the Design & Access statement for the proposed new Memorial Hall buildings on the existing site.  They were submitted to the Peak District National Park Authority's Planning Service, who registered their receipt on 2nd July 2008 (ref. NP/DDD/0608/0546).  Amended plans were submitted on the 1st August, and the Planning Committee passed the application with conditions on the 15th August 2008.

This sheet gives the ground plan of the proposed new Memorial Hall.  To understand this fully it should be seen in conjunction with the Design & Access Statement below.  Also the various spaces in the building have been designed for flexible use, and further plans indicating how this will work can be seen on page 13 of the Design & Access Statement.

These two sheets give drawings of the main elevations.  For more information and drawings about how the proposed new building will appear and relate to the surrounding buildings see pages 5, 8 and 14-17 of the Design & Access Statement below.  Also see the modifications made after submission of the planning application under the Supplementary Design Statement (30/7/08) below.

Full Design & Access Statement

This gives a comprehensive account of the rationale for the proposed new building, how it will work and how it will relate to the site, to the road and footpaths and to the surrounding buildings.  To fully understand the plans it is important to also read this document.

Supplementary Design Statement

This Supplement (30th July 2008) gives additional information and modifications to some of the elevations, resulting from discussions internally and with the Peak Park Planners following submission of the planning application.  See also:

Proposed New Electricity Substation

It is proposed to relocate the electricity substation to enable more efficient use of the site creating an enclosed rear garden/play area and to create larger more flexible community hall facilities.  The new substation would be sited in an enlarged shed on Main Street (the Carbide Shed).  See also

When the formal letter of planning consent is available we will provide more details of the conditions that include to:

  1. Adopt amended plans

  2. Minor design details (including the already intended re-use of materials for the Electricity sub-station shed)

  3. Include agreed measures to minimise the building's carbon footprint

  4. Comply with District Council requirements

  5. Comply with Highway Authority requirements

  6. Submission of landscaping scheme

  7. Restricted use of the land adjacent to Shaw Lane House

  8. Restrict hours of operation between 6-30am and 12pm

  9. Building only to be used for local community purposes within Class D2
